As in the opinion of the manager the Board was not likely to require tho full amount of either loan, ho had authorised the manager to close the applications. At present the Board had £57,000 on deposit. The Board had received, after considerable delay, 900 of the 1300 poles for Waimate, and the work of pole erection had been started in the Waimate borough. Tho first meter reading in Tomuka had taken place during the month, covering two months' supply. The average monthly return per consumer was ,10s. Mr Angland asked if tho £'57,000 on deposit was in tho bank, and, if.so, at what rates. The chairman: Yes.. At the usual rates, 3J per cent, for threo months and 3$ per cent, for six months. The executive committee reported that, in accordance with tho provisions of the Act, it wnsgnecessary to prepare an estimate of the income and expenditure for the current year, exclusive of capital moneys. After careful consideration, the committee recommended that such administrative charges as' could not be charged direct to any particular account should be allocated in the following proportion: Geraldine and Waimate loans, 35 per cent, each; general account, 20 per cent,; Geraldine-Temuka revenue, 10 per cent. On this basis the committee's estimate'd income for the whole district administration account was as follows: Cash at March 31st, 1925, £4O 5s lOd; debtors, £175 Cs 10 d; Timaru 1 Borough Council, £196; preliminary report (Waimate loan ac--1 count), £SO; total, £461 12s Bd. The Board's foreman at Temuka advised that on May 23rd 2ewt of galvanised wire had been delivered at Eaukapuka .sub-station for No. 2 wiro gang, and on their resuming work on May 25th the wiro was found to bo missing. Tho Geraldine police had taken the matter up. - Mr Angland asked if it would not bo possiK-3 for the Board to make arrangements for the supply of power to those residents living in tho Levels County close ;to the borough boundary. The engineer said that another Board in a similar position had roticulated round tho borough, carrying out the work itself. Ho did not seo why the South Canterbury Board could not do tho same, but it was a matter of policy. The chairman said the matter had been sufficiently discussed at a previous meeting. Mr Angland asked if the Board had a finance committee, and was informed that the executive committee acted in this capacity. He charged the Board with unwisely spending the sum of £I3OO in brokerage fees, etc., in connexion with the loan of £57,000. He moved that a finance committee, consisting of Messrs Kerr, Bruce, and Mills, should be set up. Mr Kerr said he would second the motion, but would rather not act on the suggested committee. Colonel McKenzie said the executive committee was efficiently carrying out the administration of the Board's financial affairs. Mr Mills suggested that the present executive committee should bo called the finance committee. Mr Angland altered his motion accordingly, and it was carried.
