BULLER GORGE RAILWAY.
WESTPORT URGES COMPLETION OF LINE. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WESTPORT, .lune 0. One of the largest, most enthusiastic, and most representative public meetings held in AVestport took place in the Town Hall to-night, the Mayor (Mr Menzies) presiding, when the following resolution was carried unanimously:— "(1) That this representative meeting of electors of the Buller electorate enters an emphatic protest at the slow progress being made with the construction of the. Westport-Inangahua (Buller Gorge) railway, particularly from Cascade to Inangahua Junction. It further requests the Minister of Railways to expedite the work, and points out that the whole electorate is handicapped by the isolation under which it exists. This meeting is of opinion that the work is of great national importance, as well as of importance to the Buller district, and the natural resources of the district warrant the completion of tin; line to link up with the South Island Main Trunk system. This meeting further strongly recommends that a contract for this work be let as early as possible by tender. (2) That the Minister of Public Works be urged to complete the Westport-Greymouth coastal road as being imperative in the interests of the whole community, and of far-reaching economic effect; that the road be declared a main highway; that the Buller Progress League, Westport Progress League, Westport Borough Council, Buller County Council, and other local bodies be asked to send a combined deputation to Wellington to bring these matters before the Government."
