Feary; Tuahiwi will default to Amberley, and Kowai will default to Woodcßd. HURUNUI SUB-UNION. On Saturday afternoon Cheviot met Culverden at Culverden. Owing to the recent heavy rains the ' ground was very slippery, but both teams gave a good exhibition. In the first spell the home team secured the ball most frequently from the scrums, and made every possible use of their backs, who were combining well, but they were met by deadly tackling a,nd could not pierce the dpfence.. On the few occasions that fhe Cheviot' backs got the ball they showed heady work, and from one passing bout C. Barnes went over a for a good try. S. Maxwell placed a good goal from a penalty kick for Culverden, and the spell ended 3 points each. In the second spell Cheviot infused more dash into their p'ay, and the fast following up and bustling tactics of the forwards soon completely upset the back play of their opponents, i;nd gained the 'Upper hand. Their backs were now able to show their mettle, and Culverden had a hard time in defending; but Cheviot's fierce attacks were not to be denied, and twice they crossed their opponents' line. The game ended with Cheviot 9 points (three tries), Culverden 3 points (a penalty goal). The Waiau * team met Kaikoura at Kaikoura, the game resulting in a win for Waiau by 13 points to 8. Waikari had fhe bye. At Culverden, Cheviot juniors had a runaway victory over Culverden by 39 points to 3. At Kaikoura, Waiau was defeated by Kaikoura by 9 points to nil. Hanmer journeyed to Waikari and defeated the home team by 11 points to 3.

PENINSULA SUB-UNION. Saturday senior matches results:— Lb Bon's Bay 3 points beat Akaroa nil. Maoris 12 beat United Bay 3 '\ Little Eiver defaulted to Little Alkaloa. Okain's Bay had a bye, LEAGUE.
