O'Brien, M.P., is delivering a series of pre-sessiorial addresses in the .Wes,tland constituency. \.\ Mr P. Fitzgerald is acting as relieving stationmaster at Otira. Mrs W. Blair, of Greymouth, has en-: tered the Hospital for treatment. Mr and Mrs T. Franklin, of Christchurch, are visiting Greymouth. Mr A. H. Carey, who'has been appointed manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Greymouth, will arrive by tomorrow's express. Sunshine and Bala. For the week ending Sunday.there were 38. points 1 of rain at Hokitika and--43 hours 22 minutes of sunshine. Greymouth Stock Sale. The fortnightly stock sale at the Preston road yards saw a good yarding of fat cattle. Prime ox beef realised from 32s 6d to 35s per 1001b, best cow ■beef 27s 6d, and plainer beef up to 255. The following were the principal sales: —On account of F. Donovan (Ngahere), 3 fat bullocks at £9, 3 at £7 10s, 1 heifer at £6 12s 6d; Cunningham Bros. (Jackson), 4 fat cows at £7 ss, 3 at £6 10s, 2 at £4; M. Evan and Son (Rotomanu), 1 fat cow at £5 las 3d, medium at £3; F. W. Buss, 1 fat cow at £5, 1 vealer at £1; E. Noble (Kapahoe), 12 store .bullocks at £O. Train Delayed. The goods train due at 6.30 p.m. from Otira was delayed on Saturday owing to a slight failure on the automatic signaling system between Moana and .Stillwater. Otira School. Improvements arc to be effected to the Otira- school ground, the School Committee having decided to put the, work in hand immediately. Technical School. Tho monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the Greymouth Technical School was held to-night. Present: Messrs W. H. Parfitt (in the chair;, J. Goodall, W. Kyle, G. Perotti, and 1. 11. Kilgour. An apology for absence was received from Mr W. Blair. The Financial Committee reported that the balance at the bank was £270. An additional report prepared by the committee stated that since its inception it had been faced with the problem of providing many things required for the new school, such as equipment, playing grounds, etc. The committee was beginning- to show a credit on the ordinary monthly revenue, and .although there were many small obligations still to be met, the state of the finances was such that in a few years it would be in a very sound position. The indications were that they had already turned the corner of the initial difficulties. It recommended that a piano be purchased, as there was a balance in the general account of £l7O, and that Messrs Hutton, Coatcs, and | Perotti be appointed a committee to [so. into the matter .
The Teport was. adopted. . Miss Winifred-E. Jolly was appointed domestic science instructress. • A letter was received from the Dunediri Exhibition Council: asking the Board to Co-operate", in an oducational "exhibit. ,■■:'•■■ ''[■■'' It. was resolved .to ascertain from the Education Department whether the school would-be permitted to mako an exhibit in -the. West Coast,court. Messrs Kyle, and Pullin were appoint ' ed a Visiting Committee. \ It was resolved to. send Mr G.' For the week ending Saturday. 1 the Westport Coal Company shipped 6619 tons of coal. ' ' \-' . ' A dispute, at the Eewanui top mine over timbering threatens to render the State; mines.idle. .. - Westport Busy. A rush of shipping was experienced at Westport at the. week-end, and' the departure of the Komata was delayed owing to a shortage of labour. Bullet Rugby "Union. ♦ At the weekly meeting o.fj the Buller ■Rugby Union, tho resignation of Mr W. Shand was received, and Mr C. Woods was appointed to fill the vacancy on tho i Selection Committee. , Advice was received from the New Zealand' Union that ■ the decision to cancel the Maori team's tour was not final, and further proposals were being awaited from the Maori Advisory Board. * , The request of the Inangahua SubUnion for a match at Beeftonwas declined, as the day suggested, a Sunday, would bring the Union into opposition with the New Zealand Union. A letter was received from-Mrs Toll offering a. silver cup for competition -at Denniston. \ ' ( It was resolved to debar players ordered off from participating in matches until they arc dealt with, and to ask the Referees' Association to deal firmly with cases of obscene language. The selection of the Buller team to
