MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE.
DELEGATES'EXPENSES. The Invercargili Borough Council recently wrote to the Christchurch City Council soliciting support for the following remit, which would be submitted for consideration at the next Municipal Conference: "That the travelling expenses of all delegates attending Municipal Association Conferences be pooled, and the cost thereof divided, through the Association Executive, between all the local authorities taking part therein in proportion to the number of their delegates." The Finance Committee informed the City Council last night that they had given the matter careful consideration, and recommended the Council to endorse the remit. The Minister of Internal Affairs had intimated that he was prepared to ask Parliament to validate the amount expended last year, an excess of the limit of "Unauthorised Expenditure," but he pointed out that he was not prepared,..as at present advised to recommend the validation of an excess of expenditure under Section 105 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, in any subsequent year, as there seemed no reason why the Council could not limit the number of its delegates to the Municipal Conference in order not to exceed the amount fixed. .
