CHRISTCHURCH CENTRE. A meeting of tho Christchurch Bowling Centre was held last night. PresentMessrs A. J. Benzie (president), T. W. Ambrose. H. P. Dobbs, John Brown, A. J. Steans, E. Healey, H. Burson, C. Piper, Howarth, F. Barrett, T. Freeman, G. VT. C. Smithson, W. Shearman. W. Poole, and 11. Firman. Acknowledgment of the Centre's txprcssion of sympathy with the family of tho late Mr. G. Prince was received. A letter of thaiiks for sympathy extended to Mrs W. F. Massev and familv wa» also received. The chairman said flat, in connexion with the death of the late Prime Ministei, there had besn no meeting of the Centre -ast month, but the executive had met and passed a motion of sih;ere sympathy witu the family of the deceased. I'lio secretary reported that tho Centre's finance showed a credit balance of £IKB 6s 9d at present. He anticipated concluding the year with a credit balance of about £IOO. The Xew Zealand Bowling AoßOci&tion advised that the annual meeting would be heM on September £th at DtmediriT'" Tho letter gave instruction* hft to the flection of officers and Council, and stated that nominationn must be in the-, hands of tho secretary (Mr R. W. Rhalcrass, Wellington) not later than Jnlv Bth. Messrs M. F. Barnett and J. D. Colville were nominated as the Canterbury representatives The New Zealand Asscc'ation also forwarded a ropv of the minutes of the m?ctin? of the Executive held on M&V 20ih. The letter included advico that F. J. Tasker, flkip of a Wellington o'.ub team, had defaulted in tho seventh and eighth rounds of the rink competition at the Dominion tourney, and that, a fine of £5 had been imposed. He was teverely censured, and i» to bo rerorled to the nnnual meeting of tho Association. The letter also said that a communication had been recrived from the Town Cleric, Suva, stating that the NaT South Wali s bowlers proposed to travel by tho July trip of the and a letter was received from the Auckland Centre suggesting that Auckland and Wellington should make their own arrangements and join ui) On the trip. The committeo decided to ascertain if the We'.lingtbn Centre desired to participate in the trj?, and to acknowledge the invitation from Suva.- Ths honorary trtasurer repoited a hank bal-ncf of £2B3* 2s sd, in addition to £SOO invested in war bonds. 'An honorarium of £SO was pnssed to the honorary secretary and £lO 10s to the honorary treasurer. The letter was received. The chairman, on behalf, of the Centre, extended a welcome to Mr H. Firman, who had "h»en elected to renrfßent, the Beckenham Club, in place ci Mr E. C. Chcgt;in ( who had gone to Australia. In acknowledging the welcome,.Mr Firman stated that ho had been instructed by hrt club to again ask the Centre to press for n. system of daylight saving. He considered that the tirnu was now ripe to again bring the matter before, the Government. . The chairman said it would be advisable to hold discussion of the mat'er over for some litt'o time, because he understood the Sports' Protection Lcsig™ hsd the »übject nndei consideration., and x intended asking sports bodies to support their proposals on it in tho near future. The snecial committee set np to consider the matter of bowl-testing stated that it had commenced its investigation r.B requested,, but would like a further month lefore submitting a report. Tho request was granted.
