Illllllll!itillill!lllllllllll!lllli;tlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll How Results are Determined Tests of a most elaborate nature have been conducted in New Zealand over the last two years by. Mr. Scott, of Lincoln College, and Messrs. Ward and Hudson, .of the Department of Agriculture, with the view of accurately determining the value of manure in wheat growing. Fourteen different fields, on eight different farms, were utilised, and scores of weighings were made in each plot to avoid any abnormal production, due to irregularity in the soil. In three fields the increase due to manure was unimportant, hut in eleven fields the increase averaged seven bushels per acre. The increase was worth about fifty shillings per acre, and was obtained at a cost of 7s. 3d. per acre for manure. In other words, the increased yield represented a profit of 666 per fcent. oa the cost of the "Rockland" Superphosphate! These tests were very fully dealt with in an article by Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf, Lincoln College, which appeared in "The Press" of May 30th, 1926, and wo are using Dr. Hilgendorf's article as the basis, or authority, for this advertisement. MMIMnMI!I!K It must be remembered that it is the last few bushels that make the profits. For instance, if it takes 30 bushels per acre to pay expenses, and the average yield is 35 bushels, there are 5 bushels per acre for profit. Increase the yield with "Rockland" Superphosphate to 40 bushels, and you have 10 bushels per acre for profit. The yield is increased only 14. per cent., increases t but THE PROFIT IS INCREASED 100 PER CENT. In actual J tests the increase averaged 7 bushels per acre, so that THE 5 ACTUAL INCREASE OF WHEAT PROFIT WITH " ROCKj LAND" SUPERPHOSPHATE IS REALLY NEARER 150 ! PER CENT. The question of Quick Ripening In his article, Dr. Hilgendorf also mentioned the fallacy prevalent in some quarters that wheat manured with "Rockland" Superphosphate ripened quicker with a lessened yield. Dr. Hilgendorf stated that THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE FOR THIS CONCLUSION; to the cons^aregrastirasii^ia "ROCKLAND " Superphosphate is procurable through all Stock ana Station Agents* and Produce Merchants. trary, in one of the official tests, wheat, with. "Rockland" phate and without, was sown in the same field, in the same hour, and side by side. The plot with "Rockland" Superphosphate ripened a week before the other, AND YD3LDED 9 BUSHELS AN AOBE MOKE! sphate you obtain those more than double your Manufacturers: Kempthorne, Prosser & Co.V New Zealand Drug Coy. Two beautiful and popular numbers Lave, been recorded by J..11. Squire's instrumental trio and instynmentarociet. They are Schubert's "Ave Maria" and Middle's setting of j the well-known hymn, "Abide With He" respectively. The best known tune for "Abide I With Me" is that of William Henry Monk, but the Liddle setting is also much favoured, especially by singers. The selections have been wisely chosen with a view to meeting popular taste for instrumental music that is likely to be (often erroneously) spoken of as "too classical."
