v , CITY GRANT TO CANTERBURY COURT. ' . A deputation from -the local executive Of the Dunedin Exhibition waited on the City Council some few weeks ago with a request for a grant to assist in meeting the cost of Canterbury court. The request was considered by the Finance Committee, which recommended the Council last night that a grant of Is for each £IOOO of capital value of'the city be made, provided all the other local bodies in North Canterbury contribute on the sajne basis. The valuation of the city was £20,677,970, and the Council's sharo would amount to £1033-18s. The committee further recommended that the grant be made only> subject to the Audit Department being satisfied that, it was in accordance with the provisions of Section 75 (1) of • tho Finance Act, 1924, which .read: "Any local authority may out of its ordinary revenue defray the cost o£ collecting and preparing exhibits of the; products and resources of its district, and of exhibiting the same at the Exhibition or may make to the company grants for the purpose of the Exhibition." The report was adopted.
