♦ > . WELLINGTON DEFEATS CHRISTCHURCH. The tournament between the Christchurch and Wellington Teachers' Training Collogos terminated en Friday in victory for Wellington by four points. The tourney included swimming, boxing, debating, basketball, tennis, and hockey contests, ahd by Friday afternoon the position was that Wellington was leading by two points, with only the Rugby match to be decided. . Naturally, keen interest was taken in the game, which." was played at Lyall Bay in the presence of. some 200 supporters of both teams, who kept'up a running fire of encouragement for their respective sides. The match was most stubbornly contested, and what was lacking in science Was made up for in deadly tackling and dash. The first twenty minutes saw play very even, but here the Wellington tearu got going with a beautiful passing rush, id which the ball passed through seven hands with the men traveling at top pace, and ended in Fuller scoring between tho posts. Nelson converted. Before the spell ended, McMillan broke away for Christchurch, and after a strong run he handed on to Skipworth, who made a nice opening for Harper to score in a handy posi ion Thompson converting. Canterbury attacked early in the second spell, and ™o nearly over on several occasions. The Wellington men lasted better, however; and eventually Lewis sent *>ut a pass to Alexander, which enabled the latter to cross at the corner. The distance was too far for Nelson to convert Just before tho game ended, Wellington' again attacked, and a strong run by Jackson enabled Lewis, to score close tX. 4hn r>ost for Nelson to improve.
