NORTH CANTERBURY.
KAIAPOI. The ! euchre tournament and dance organised bv the Kaiapoi Tennis Club and held in'the Drill Hall, Kaiapoi, on Fridar evening, was well attended. The hall was prettily decorated; streamers of blue and gold, the club's colours, predominating. Mr G. Hirst acted as M.C., and Mr A. Hirst supervised the euchre tournament. Excellent music for the dancing was raided by J**" B **? * Jazz Band, and during the evening songs were contributed by i» ss *■ Thorne and Mr G. Hirst. The winner or the "lucky-spot" waltzes were Miss W. Johnston 'and Mr S. Rinaldi, ndJJ« N Stark and Mr J. Jowers. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs W. Clarke and Mrs A. Moore, Mr Georgeson and Mr E. Wilson. WAIKUKU. The Waikuku Men's Miniature Kifla Club held its weekly shoot, also match against Kaiapoi Working Men s Club. AKAROA. - The seiven-a-side tournament under the auspices of the Peninsula Rugby Sub-TJnion, will be held at Little Akaloa. on' Thursday next. The Akaroa Boating Club held another of its "boat fund raising" social gatherings last Wednesday. There was an excellent' attendance and a very pleasant time was spent with cards ana dancing. The prizes at the progressive euchre were won by Miss Dorothy Leeto and Mr A. H. Williams, while Miss Courtney and Mr James Curry annexed the consolations. ' At the'lsrafc meeting of the Akaroa Domain Board, Mr Geo.. Armstrong in tho chair, the Domain Tennis Club s offer to pay £3O, or half the cost, or extending and making sundry alterations to the municipal courts was received. After discussion it was resolved'to call for tenders for the work, on the ireceipt of which the club's offer will receivo consideration. The proposed rearrangement of the courts will he a decided improvement with respect to the lighting. . SALTWATER CREEK. Another of the fortnightly euchre tournaments, .inaugurated by the School Committee in aid' of the echool ftinds, was held in tlie.'Saltwater Creek, schoolroom on Friday evening, when, there.was a crowded attendance. .Prjzes given by' Mrs Armstrong and Mrs 0,. Topp, were won, the ladies' by Mrs L. Smith and the gentlemen's by Mr J. "AVyllie. An. excellent supper'was. served, by Mrs Armstrong, Mrs Powell and Mrs C. Topp, after which a dance was held. The music was supplied by the Misses Eder. Mr B. Powell, and Mrs G. Smith, KOWAI BUSH. The Kowai Bush School Olub has commenced its winter activities and is holding fortnightly euchre tournaments. To augment the funds of the club Misses Evans, R,ussoll and Spencer arranged a social evening for Friday. There was a very good attendance, and a programme consisting of games, dances, competitions and musical items was gone through. The competitions, which caused much morriment were , won by Miss Jacobs and Mr Bryson Supper was served by the ladies and a thoroughly enjoyable evening was brought to a close at midnight.
HORNBY-ISLINGTON. A very successful carnival dance was held in the Islington Social Hall on Thursday evening. Tho hall -was prettily decorated with coloured streamers, and several novelty dances wero introduced during; the evening. The music was supplied by Mr Stanmore (piano\ and Mr »• Gopperth (violinl.
