Judge Crawford, whose chair at the Edmonton County Court collapsed owing to old age—it had seen-40 years' service—some weeks ago, has got a new one. which has been through the test of bearing the combined weight of seven men. The judge is over 6ft in height, and when first the Office of Works replaced the broken chair he declined to sit in the new arrival, declaring it was fit only for a junior clerk, and threatening to write to the Lord Chancellor unless a chair was supplied befitting the dignity of one of his Majesty's judges. A second chair ■was sent along, but this was too small for the judge to sit in. When he made the threat of another public protest a clerk rang up the Office of Works, and 24 hours later the stately piece of furniture' complete with the Eoyal crest, from which Judge Crawford is now dispensing justice, arrived.
