Sapsford's trophy for the best score against bogey, being 2 up to the next score of 1 down. A bogey match was plaved at th« Kichmond Hill Club on Saturday, which was won by J. D. The first round of the Borthwick Vase was played at Shirley on Saturday. C. H. Smith won by default from B. C. Whitcombe. In thc three matches played, the shorter handicap player won in each instance, none of the games being very close. M. Macbeth beat J. H. Early, who was receiving five strokes, by 3 up and 2 to play. W. P. Anderson beat F. G. Bristed, who was receiving two strokes, by 5 np and 3 to play, and A. R. Blank beat L. Hansen, who Was receiving one stroke, by 6 and 4.

Tho second round, which is the semifinal, will be played next Saturday, when M. Macbeth, scratch, plays C. H. Smith, handicap 16, and W. P. Anderson, 3, plays A. R. Blank, 7.

Mrs Dodgshun, the winner of the Canterbury Ladies' Championship at the Easter tournament at Shirley, won the Otago Ladies' Championship at Balmacewen, Dunedin, on Saturday. She was second in the qualifying rounds with 169 to Mrs McCarthy's 168. In the match play Mrs Dodgshun beat Miss Cato, Napier, at the 19th hole, and in the semi-final beat Miss Chrystall, Christchnrch, and in the final Bhe, beat Mtb Orbell, Oamaru, by 6 up and 5 to play. The Christchurch ladies at the meeting played well, Miss Chrystall being fifth in the qualifying list and winning her match in the first round of the championship. She went down to Mrs Dodgshun in the semi-final. Miss K. Bristed tied with Mrs Orbell, of Oamaru, for the eighth position in the championship. On the play-off, however, Mrs Orbell won, and went on from that to the final. Miss Cotterill and Miss White-Parsons both played steady golf, but not quite good enough to qualify.

When a hole is accomplished in one stroke, even in the older clubs at Home, and even in this day and age when they seem to ..be .much more common than a few years ago, considerable fuss is made over the event. What, then, was to be expected when Koger Blunt, who has only been playing golf for, the matter of about a year, holed his tee shot while playing the fourth:hole, "The Hurdles," 135 yds, at Harewood;. while playing in the team match against Lyttelton, during the week-end. This being the first "one'', secured on the- present course, Blunt, in addition to observing the usual royal and ancient custom, was congratulated by the club captain and other officials. '.

- At Harewood, during the week-end, a team match'was played with a team of twelve players from : the Charteris Bay Club, Lyttelton. Some close matehes resulted, and an enjoyable time was had by. all regardless of the fact that the day turned out too cold for comfort.

The Harewood team won twelve matches and lost two, two being halved. The individual results were .as follows, the Harewood players being named first in each:instance: —

During the morning a bogey handicap match was played by those not playing in the team, and the ladies Miss Peggy Norton, with a handicap of ".had the best card, which was 6 down. L. Pegler, handicap 5, was 7 down, and L. J. le Oren, handicap 15, was 8 down Next week-end the first round of the Captain's TrophV will be played. This is stroke play with, iron clubs only. Concurrently with the above, a medal handicap will be played. There are 72 entries for the knock-out tournament for the Captain's Trophy, to be played at Shirley, beginning next Saturday- Mr M. H. Godby, while captain last year, instituted this tournament, and tho winner is to be the holder of the Gddby Challenge Trophy and also receive a trophy presented by. tho present eantain, Mr T. W. Woodroffe, which will becomo his property. The runnernp will also receive a prise presented by the club. The following draw shows the first round opponents Who will play next Saturday.
