LOCAL ELECTIONS.
RECOUNT OF CITY COUNCIL
VOTES.
After a strenuous period of recounting and checking, the Assistant-Return-ing Officer, Mr Albert Freeman, has supplied the following official statistics of the election of city councillors:— The personnel of the new Council as set out in "The Press" of Thursdaylast, is not changed, but there are four alterations in the order of candidates. Discoveries of mistakes made in the counting of votes have resulted in Cr. A. McKellar (Citizens) replacing Cr. C. Carr (Labour), who was ninth on the list, and Cr. W. J. Sim (Citizens) becoming fifteenth on tho list in place of (Jr. T. H. Butterfleld (Labour. In the list of unsuccessful candidates Mr A. Williams (Citizens) fias replaced Mr It. B. Dalley (Citizens)), and Mr W. J, Green (Labour) has replaced Mr R. M. Macfnriane (Labour). The total ballot-papers issued numbered 22,825, and 467 informal votes were discovered.
The following is the result of the ofl'ieial recount of votes recorded for councillors at the elections:—

(PHSSS ASSOCIATION TKLE&RiU.) OAMARU, May 3. Tho recent municipal election in Oamat'u is likely to produce interesting developments. At one of tho outlying booths a latrgc number of electors could not gain admission when tho booth was closed at seven o'clock. Tho Mayor obtained authority from the Iteturnirtg Office* to re-open the booth, and many voters obtained admission after the closing hour. A petition for a Magisterial enquiry will probably he lodged. Meantime the Returning Officer has asked the Minister of Internal Affairs to issue an Order-in-Cotincil validating his action.
