The first concert of the Royal Christ-church Musical Society for this present season will "be held at the Choral xiall on Tuesday and Wednesday, sth and 6th inst, when' Edward German's charming English opera, "Merrie England" will be produced in concert form. This opera appeals strongly to all Britishers, the lyrics and characters being all purely English—nothing appertaining to the East or the Continent—and relating- strictly to the history of our own land. The principals on this occasion will be Miss Myra Sawyer, of Wanganui, as the May "Queen: Mrs E. Litchfield pas Jill; Mrs L. I.eighton as Queen Elizabeth; Mi- Harold Prescott as Essex, and Mr Arthur Bell as Raleigh. The members of the chorus, who have been training hard and consistently, will be supported by a highly efficient orchestra, under the leadership of Mrs Roy Twyneham, the whola production being under the conductorship of Mr Sidney Williamson. Subscribers and thegeneral public, who have especially been catered for, can look forward to a highly successful performance.
