AERIAL DEFENCE.
INCREASED VOTE WANTED. LESSON FROM WAR GAMES. (BT CABLE-MESS ASSOCIATION—rorYBIGHT.) (AtTSTF.ALUN AND S.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) NEW YORK, April 29. The Administration will aak Congress for an increased appropriation to strengthen the defence of Hawaii as a result of the capture of Oalm by attacking naval and air fleets. The recommendation of the Secretary for War, Mr J. W. Weeks, in his last annual report, for the better preparedness at the cross-roads of the Pacific will be put in the form of an urgent demand in tho next report. Officials havo outlined the most needed reform on tho basis of Oahu's capture as an immediate increase of the Island's permanent air force, coupled with increased artillery and infantry forcos.
Military experts and flying officers are agreed that the disparity in the air force largely accounts for the capture, and recommend an increase from 40 airplanes to 100.
It is stated that the Hawaiian defences cannot be made adequate until there are as many planes permanently stationed at the Island as could be put into tho air by a hostile fleet.
