WEST COAST EXPRESS.
SPEEDING UP THE SERVICE. Besides the speeding up of the Christchurch-Dunediu-Invereargill expresses, the Railway Department has aiso arranged for the reduction of travelling time in the case of the West Coast express. The new timetable will, along with that to operate in the case of th© main south Jine,' come into force on May lltih. Under the new arrangement the us.ual 9.5 > a.m. Christchuxch-Greymouth express on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, will leave the city at 9.35 a.m., arriving at Springfield at 11.33 a.m., and at Greymouth at 4.15 p.m. The usual 10.16 a.m. mail train from Greymouth will kavo its starting point at the same time, but will arrive at Arthur's Pass at 1.44) p.m., and Springfield at 3.37 p.m., and reach Christchureh at 5.12 p.m., instead of 5.38 p.m. as at present.
