The municipality of Beauvais lias prohibited the exhibition of the film "Le Miracle des Loups" in that city on the ground that it presents _ the legendary Jeanne Hachette, a mediaeval local heroine, under too romantic an aspect. The legend runs that in 1474, when Charles the Bold was besieging Beauvais with an army of 80,000 men, Jeanne Laisne, a stalwart woman of the town, struck a lucky blow with a hatchet that precipitated the flight of the besiegers and gave her a new name that has rendered her immortal. The author of the film is to be sued for damages in the name of the city Jeanne inhabited.
