SCHOOLS AND LOST TIME.
TO TM MITOS 'OT "THS PMSS.'
Sir,—What is the position in the matter' of schools and the epidemic? The children have lost the most valuable quarter—the one in which their attendance is the best, their health, ditto, and also the one in which most of their vearly work is explained. Now, sir, it is "impossible that they can properly get through this yew's work unless thev are over-worked to do soI think "that the children should most certainly bo kept back * standard tor this year. Let them revise last year s ■work and devote more time to developing the aesthetic side of study. At the recent Teachers' Refresher Course, one heard, on all sides ho* this phase of education was, neglected. Let the children Temember this as a pleasant school vear—be outside n pre, ami study Nature, do more gardening, drawing/painting, singing, and handiwork—all subjects that youngsters Joyo and get far too little of. Children will not then dread the return to lessons, as so many are now doing, m anticipation of more home-work, Saturda> classes, and longer hours, which rr.an> schools here have already instituted. From a teacher's point of view, -Ms would bo only fair too, but let it be universal—each teacher to fall in line and no one to try to beat his fellow . Yours, etc., BDrcAnONALISr . March 25th, 1925.
