Auckland, which is now drawing to a close, has been an excellent one for producers. •It opened auspiciously with prices for mutton and lamb particularly good.' and beef' rates re-established at a payable standard'. Just recently tho market for beef has slackened in the Dominion, though Smitfrfield quotations still: ehow a margin of, profit ■to producers. The demand on the part of the exporters, however, has fallen away, and beef ; at present is not wanted by. the- people who.purchase; for «x----;port. There are still good bookings for beef in the freazing works of the province, but unices exporters again tecome active in demand, the majority of i reducers may elect to keep their beef on the.hoof instead of having it slaughtered and stored in the hope of market improvements. ;
