NORTH BEACH BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of.tho North Beach and "Waimairi Burgesses 1 ' Association was held in;the Surf Pavilion, •when Mr E. A. M. Leaver presided ever a' good attendance. * A li3t of persons for nomination to thoSchool Committee was-read,, and it was.decided to endorao tho nominations of Messrs S. S. FreebornJ H. Inetone, A.- Plorancc, K. P. Bush, A. Noonan, A. C. Rowlands, K\ A. M. Leaver, and tho Ilov. W. P. Knowlea.

The chairman invited all present to -attend tho housoholderH' meeting next Monday night, and show their interest in '-'tho school. •.;..•'■

In discussing-the question - of-Teprca'ehta-lioii on tho Borough Council, the ,Kcv. AV. F. Knowles eulogised tho work done in the past by Councillor ■ Leaver,- arid expressed tho wish that -Councillor Leaver would reconsider his decision not to again seek election. At tho request of the meeting Mr Leaver agreed to be nominated: as a candidate at the forthcoming election. Mr Knowles was also asked to stand, but he declined for family reasons. Mr F. J. Lawrence Scott was then duly nominated as a candidate, the nomination being unanimously .approved by the meeting. Mr Lamb moved that "This Association regret that owing 1o the ill-health of his family the Rev.. W. F. Knowles had declined nomination and was contemplating leaving tho district." Mr Knowles suitably responded. • In' connexion with tho recent firo in Osborne terrace, Mr" Bailey reported that when the manual engine-was wanted.it was found that tha nozzle was missing. Mr Bailey further offered, on condition that the Council put ihe engine in order, to raise a small local volunteer fire brigade. It was decided to .approach tho Council on the mutter.

In connexion with the coming municipal election, the chairman. reported that for the first time arrangements had been made to 'have a polling booth for tho Brighton Council election in • Manchester street, for the benefit of Brighton residents working in town.
