Much indignation is felt ai the Lawn Tennis Association's action in regard to rebates. At Roeliampfon several leading players discussed • "down racquets'' strike. Jacob explains that 'the Indian Association did not have time to reply to the correspondence following the. Association's decision. The Association has suspended S. Jf. Jacob and A. H. Yyt.ee for the same reasons as in the case of ,-R. D. Helmore. [A previous message said: A sensation was created in the lawn tennir. world by the Knglish Tennis Association's drastic action in deciding that any player accepting a reduction of more than 40 per cent, from the ordinary charges made by hole's and similar establishments, in connexion with his .playing a game in anv tournament, match, or competition, would" forfeit amateur status under Rule 27. The offer of such reduction to a player in cunncxion with any tournament will rendev the tournament liable to have the sanction of the Council withdrawn niul any further sanction refused. Any reduclion, not exceeding 40 per cent., which may be offered, must be'extended without distinction to all players competing. Helmore, who was recently temporarily suspended in connexion with the team he look to Paris last autumn, had his suspension exlendod to the end of the. year. All the other players, including Von Braun, Higgs, Jacob, and A. v H. Fyzee, received notices intimating that penalties may be inflicted unless they reveal in detail the hotel expenses paid by the Paris Club, And doposit their proration thereof.)
