ABNORMAL RAIN.
RESERVOIR BANK BURSTS. FIVE PEOPLE DROWNED. (it cable—peers ASSOCIATION—COPYMGHT.) (BEDTEB'S TILEOKAMB.J LONDON, April 19. By the bursting of a reservoir bank at Skelmorlie, near Greenock, following abnormal rainfall, four children, between the ages of seven-and 14, and a woman, were drowned. Tho last-named was attempting to rescue her hifcee and nephew. ' Several houses were carried away.
The disaster was due to tho carrying away of, a thirty-foot dam in consequent of torrential rains raising the level of the water in the reservoir until the danger point was reached. Fortunately the bulk of the water invaded tho roadway, thus missing many houses. Not a vestige of one house remained after the deluge passed. Threo children playing outside were killed, one body being carried over gardens and roads to the sea, where it was found half-buried in sand.
A motor-bus, full of passengers, ran into the flood, but, turning, got clear in time.
