Miss C'hloe Withers, who has been in Christchurch for the golf tournament, returns to Geraldine on Thursday. Mr and Mrs Fred Parson, Miss Dorothy and Master Fred Parson, who have been staying at Governor's Bay since Christmas, returned to North Beach yesterday.

Miss Betty Cotterill and Miss Molly Cato leave on Saturday for Dunedin, where they will take part in the golf tournament next week. Mrs W. T. Ward and Miss Veronica Ward (Manchester street North) are leaving next week for a trip to Sydney. Miss Glendining and Miss Kyle (Dunedin), who have been iu Christchurch for the golf tournament, are motoring to Dunedin to-day. Mrs Bennett ("The Corners," Methven) a,;>d Mrs Gordon Candy (Anama), who have been visiting North Canterbury, have returned to their homes.

Mr and Mrs F. Roberts, who were touring in South Canterbury and North Otago, spent a short holiday at Victoria House, Geraldine, before returning to Dunedin.

Mrs E. A. Wickes and Miss _ Daisy Wickcs arrive from Grcymouth this evening. They leave New Zealand by the Makura early next week, and intend touring America and England. While in Christchurch, Mrs Wickes will be the guest of her daughter, Mrs Stuart Godfrey, St. Albans. Mr and Mrs D. K. Macdonald and Sister Jean Porteous, who have been spending a holiday at Victoria House, Geraldine, returned yesterday to Dunedin.

Tainc (Dunedin) and the Misses Coffey • (London) are staying at Warner's Hotel. Mr, Mrs and the Misses Roxby (England) and Miss S. The death occurred at St. Andrew's Manse, Palmerston North, last week, of Mrs Brown, wife of the Rev. G. T. Brown, after a long illness. Mrs Brown was formerly Miss Ruth Tipping, of Sydney, and was a school-teacher, but was widely known before coming to New Zealand as a leader of the youth movement of the Presbyterian Church of New South Wales, anfl as the editress of the "Witness," the orgau of the cause. , She was jnarried in 1921, in Sydney, and resided in Masterton and Palmerston NoTtli.

Appreciation of the work Miss Donaldson had carried out as matron of the Walth'ani Orphanage was expressed at yesterday's meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board when it was reported by the chairman (Mr H. J. Otley) that she had resigned. The chairman stated that Miss Donaldson had taken the keenest interest in the welfare of the children, and during her long term of office the home had made good progress.

I Miss Poppio Clemens was the guest of honour at a very pleasant "cup and saucer afternoon" given by Mrs J. and the Misses Jackman at their residence, "Beeehmore," Innes road, on Saturday. Music and competitions wore much enjoyed by the guests. Afternoon tea was served in the dining-room, the table being decorated with poppies and trails of Virginian creeper. A miniature wedding cake was cut by Miss Clemens. Amongst those present were Mesdames J. Clemens, C. H. Lewis, A. ' L. Jones, H. Whitmorc, F. Mazey, D. G. Smith, A. Judge, Misses Ferguson, Atack, Gamble, Moir, and Sutcliffe. This evening at the "Grand" Tea Rooms, the £BO euchre tournament will be held. The prize-winners at tonight's gathering participate in the final for the big orders. Last evening Dr. G. M. Lester gave an address to the members of the Y.W.C.A. on "Tramps and Travels"' There was a large attendance of members, and the doctor described the joys of touring through France and Sweden on foot, and per medium of the bicycle. The address, which was part of a series of parties and lecturettes organised by the Community Club, was greatly appreciated. The last two nights that euchre players will have the opportunity of qualifying for the "final" will be Thursday next and Friday, May Ist. Twenty valuable prizes will be given on each of these last nights, and all the winners will participate in the grand final tournament for the new 5-seater touring car. The final will be held ou May 6th. Euchre players are advised that their non-attendance at the previous Ford car ; euchre parties does, not prevent them from attending the last two nights, as the winning of a prize on any one night entitles one to play in the final.

In ideal weather the golf tournament* was concluded at the Shirley Links yesterday. The Bogey Competition, played in the morning, was won by Miso Gwitha Shand, who reduced her handicap, Miss Chrystall being second. The four-ball bogey match, played in the afternoon, was won by Misses A. and V. Hutton. The putting prizes were won" by Miss Chrystall and Miss Kathleen Bristed, and a charming little silver cup, presented by Lady Boys, for the best putting score during the tournament also went to Miss Bristed. At the conclusion of the afternoon match, Mrs H. S. Lawrence, captain of the Christchurch Ladies' Golf Club, before presenting the prizes won during the day, expressed pleasure at the number of visiting players who this year competed in the tournament, and specially thanked those who had given prizes— Lady Boys for a trophy for the best score, won cn Satin day by Mrs Dodgsliun, and a" putting prize won yesterday bv: Miss Kathleen Bristed. Mrs *T. H. Hall, for the very handsome championship cup won last week by Mrs Dodrrshun, and Miss Dorothy Anderson for the medal mateh won on Thursday bv Miss Betty Cotterill. On behalf of the -visiting players. Mrs Dndgshun thanked Mrs Lawrence and the local plavers for the enjoyable time they ]md spent at the tournanvnt, despite the adverse weather conditions last week.

A very enjoyable evening was spent by the friends of Mr and Mrs W. Rowe, at their residence, Lincoln road, Spreydon, to celebrate the coming of age of their daughter, Edithe. Mrs Rowe wore mole grey marocain with Oriental trimmings, and Miss Rowe, French embossed eolienne. The evening wag spent in games, dancing, and musical items, the music being supplied by Mr 7,. Pepperell, and other items given by Mr L. Pepperell, E. Kerr, M. and L. O'Connor. During the evening Mr Lassierre presented Miss Rowe with th<» usual key. Mr Beach responding on her behalf. DANCE AT WAIKUIvU. The Waikuku Hall was the scene cf a most enjoyable party, when Mr uiul Mrs C. H. Morriss entertained a number of friends 111 honour of the comingi I of-age of their daughter Doris. The hall was dec-orated with greenery, and a canopy overhead of orange and lemon | streamers. The hostess wore a navy J niarccain frock, and Miss Doris Morriss, who was the recipient of many beautiful and useful gifts, wore tomato-red taffeta with inset sid6-panels and tinysleeves of cream radium lace. The time passed all too quickly with games, dancing, and competitions, the latter being won by Misses May Baljinger, Jean Morriss, and Mr H. Ballingcr. Musical items were contributed by Miss Lynda Maddison, Miss Kathleen Jenkins, and Mr il. W. Jlolmes, of Christchurch. Miss Hilda Judson acting as accompanist. During the evening several novelty dances were introduced, including a "lucky spot" waltz, which was won by Miss Gladys Bunting and, Mr A. Horrell. Music for dancing was supplied by Miss Eder, while Mr L. R. Morriss was M.O. A dainty supper was served, at the close of which the usual toasts were honoured. Those present included:—Mr and Mrs G. H.
