annual meeting. Tho animal jneeting of tho members of the Courten ay Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in iiio Association's rooms on Saturday evening. Tho president iilr K. Murchison) presided over an attendanco of thirty-eight members. Apologies were reoeived from Hofisrs J. W. BclgTav© and H. McClelland. Tho president moved that a letter of sympathy be sent to the Hon. "W. Mas soy in his illness, and expressing tie bopo that he may be again testored to health &nd a life of usefulness to the Dominion.
The balance-sheet showed tho receipts to be £651 lis 7d and expenditure including a debit balance from last year of £93 2s 4d, £721 lis lOd, leaving a debit balance of £7O Os 3d. Against this there is £lOl outstanding in unpaid subscriptions. The president, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, stated that since last annual meeting thero had been nine committee meetings, the average attendance being eighteen. Tho membership at the beginning of the year, including life members, was 192. During the year five members were struck off the roll, and eeten resigned, whilst 29 new members were elected, making the total 211, an increase of 19 members for the year. During the year Mr L, Paynter gave a pruning demonstration, and Mr F. E. "Ward gave a lecture on agriculture. With the aid of several socials organised and carried out by tho Plunket Society, Fo:tball Club and concent parties, tho Association built a kitchenette and out of a total expenditure of £lO5 7s,
this valvabls asset had only cost tho Association £l4 16s 2d. In the early part of the year tho secretary (Mr G. T. Robertson) resigned after 29 years' service, and Mr l'\ Bclgrave was elected secretary. The outstanding feature of the balance-sheet was the large amount of outstanding subscriptions, £lOl. The entries for the annual show totalled 902, which was 154 in excess of the previous record. Owing to' tho boisterous weather on tho day preceding the show, and the dull morning on Show Day, the attendance was not so good as usual. The root crop and stack competitions wero again held, and with the exception of stacking, the entries were very satisfactory. Special prizes of fertiliser had been donated, and sufficient had been promised to provide all the prizes. The Association had joined the South Island Federation of A. and P. Associations.- Special thanks were tendered to tho judges, marshals, donors of special prizes, and all who had assisted in carrying in tho work of the Association. Messrs "W. Frizzell, G-. R. Wright, D. McLaughlin, and S. Bulmer wero. elected members. .
The South Island Federation wroto in connexion with show the number of ■members, and names of persons qualified to act as judges. The following were nominated: —Mesdames W. Sviue and H. Roper, and Messrs, W. J. Jenkins, E. and J. Eeid, A. W.. Adams, R. Colee, F. Busch, D. Hanson, E. B. Jenkins, Jas. Hight, H. Roper, —. Egbrooke, J. Eountree, J. D. Hall, and Misses J. W. Woodhouse, M. E. Jenkins," h. Colee and L. Jenkins, as junior judges. , The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr W. J. Jenkins; president, Mr D. Gallagher; senior vice-presi-dent, Mr 6. T. Robei-tson; junior vice-presi-dent, Mr M. E. Jenkins; auditors, Messrs G. T. Robertson and J. Anderson; treasurer, Mr J. W.- Bolgruve; General Committee, Messrs W. C. Bedford. A. W.' Colee, C. H. Adams, J. W. Woodhouse, A. Ihithie, F. West away, F. G. Sowden, F. L. McKie, A. Robertson, P. P. Boulnois, H. Roper, J. H. Selby, W. A. "Wilson, A. Anderson, R. W. Wilson, M. Johnson, W. Harwood, D. Kelly. A. Hart, N. Kelly, R. Colee, R. McClelland,. Austen Colee, and J. W. D. Hall, and the past' president. The retiring president thanked the membera of the committee for their assistance during the year. He also thanked those who had left their prize money to help to ' build yards, and Mr F. G. Sowden for his generous■ offer of timber. Mr. Gallagher then took the chair, and thanked the membeis for the honour conferred on him. . . it was- decided that the incoming committee go into the question of revising the rules. .
It was decided that the incoming committee go into tho question of outstanding subscriptions, and that an effort be made to collect them. ' The committee then met, and Mr ■V J> Belgrave -was re-elected .secretary,. . Motions, of sympathy were passed to Mr D* C. McBeath'. who had recently lost,his brother* to Mr W. B. Simpson; who-is.an-the hospital, and to Messrs H. and F. MciNae,' who were both incapacitated through accidents. Arrangements were made for the Field Day, to-day. and the secretary reported that Mr F. E. Ward would judge the roots' and Mr'R. Reid would value the land. Mr "Ward' had also promised l to give a lectureat Kirwee in' the evening. Correspondence was received from the Canterbury A. and P, Association with regard to an alteration in the conditions of the prizes offered by the New Zealand Meat "Producers' Board," at the Royal Show. The South Island Federation of A. and P. Associations wrote regarding rules. The consideration of this matter was ..deferredio a future meeting. Mr J. W. Woodhouso made a recommendation that a class be added to the schedule, for a collection of glasses, etc., to, be made by school children.
