WAIMAIRI COUNTY COUNCIL.
. The'-'Waimairi' County Council met last night. Present—Messrs J. Seymour (chairman), R."W. Hawke, W.' J. Walter, W.'P. Spencer,, C. E. Cross, H. Paterson, T. 0. Newman, G. E. Curry, and G. Shipley. The, electrician . reported that • three - new transformers'-'were required, each of about 30 kilowatt'capacity, to build'up the fol; loving-, supply stations-Upper. Riccarton, from Avonhead road eub-ttation; Upper Fendalton,- from' Burnside load. ' substation, to, cover the new Hamilton street subdivision, Dallington, from Mcßratney's road sub-station. Since the last report,' iwenty-two new consumers. had been . con; nected.- ' . , , .
The foreman's report, stated that the work.in connexion with the Bryndwr' channelling loan was going on well, only a eliort length on. - Jeffrey'a' road remaining to be done; Mr Spenoer iand he had inspected ' Spencerviile« road, Seafield," andwould . recommend that about • eight chains , at Firtree, in front of .the.., te<* rooms, ho put in oTder.. .It was estimated that the cost would be JC6O. A start had •been made .with -scarifying and grading and re-metallirig, Hill'a xoijd from Brigg's road to "Walter's road : The county clerk's report stated that the .rates levied for the year 3925-2S amounted to £30,569. • .Kates outstanding, on March 31st totalled itf592.. Mr Cross complained' of poor" lighting in particular parti' of the district. "Around at the new Town Hall it ia disgraceful,-" he declared. ,' "Some nights there is hardly enoughsligHt':to see: with." :Mr Spencer concurred with the previous speaker, arid it was decided to give the electrioian -authority to purchase » new transformer' ": •■J.' ' , Mr Spencer said that-.many of the telegraph polos :in different parts of the - dis-tract-were in «a Very bad state. If they were left .they Would assuredly be blown down and someone would bo-killed. The electrician said that the poles were fairly strong, and he did' not think they would come down. They had stood ■up to last week's gale,, and oiie only had ■ been blown down. . . No action was taken in the matter. A ■ deputation of Brook-lands ratepayers waited 'on the Council with a request that portions, of tho .road bo metalled. It was decided that the Council should spend up to £SO on the road, provided the residents contributed £1 for £l.
