MAYOR'S ANNUAL STATEMENT,
At last night's meeting of the Sum* ner Borough Council, tho Mavor ( ilr "VV. H. Nicholson) made tho following statement concerning tho borough 6 finances as at March 31st, 192-sCash balance cr. (all sources) £1240 10s 6(1; general account, dr., £706 7s 6d; watei supply account, cr., £oo2 19s 9d; S as revenue account, cr., £3ll 2s 8d; electrical account, cr., £771- Gs lid; Town Hall account, cr., £l9 12s sd. After pavment of £Si lis Od on principal, the street lighting account credit balance was £165 12s lOd. 11l r.ddition provision lias been ma a® for twenty new lights. Ant«cedent liability has been reduced by £163 14s. Hates outstanding, £132 10s 4d (since March 31st £53 hasbecu paid). In the course of his remarks _tne Mayor stated that it could be seen that the* borough's finances were m an eminently sound position. He wisbe to thr.nk tho Councillors very heartily for their co-operation and good worn. It was safe to say that no previous Council had put throngh so much work during office. Lyttelton road. Clifton Shtl kcarborough roads; water supply; St. Leonard square. . 1 In connexion with St. Leonard square tho Mayor said that there appeared to be some misconception as to the reason of the felling of trees surrounding the square. The real reason ■ was that as the trees had been planted on the fence line, and as no allowance had been inede for growth, they had consequently encroached on the highway and therefore had to be removed. In conclusion he thankedi the Town Clerk and the Council staff for their excellent support during the year. Cr. Thomas said tluvt ho wished to express his deep appreciation oi the Mayor's services. He said that nobody could possibly estimate the value of hia | work and his ready interest in fl " matters, however small, would always ! be remembered. j These remarks were endorsed by Cr.
