OBITUARY.

—:—4 " MR C. BOXSHALL. Mr' Charlie Boxshall. probably the best wicket-keeper New Zealand has ever had, died in Sydney on Fridav. The - late Mr Boxshall was bom in Melbourne in ISG2, and taking up cricket when he was sixteen, he played for Brighton, East Melbourne, and St. Ivilda. He came to Christehureh and first played in senior cricket- in IS9S. Practically fror.i that year till the 1914-15 season he played for Canterbury, and for the greater part of that time he k?pt wickets for New Zealand. He made his last appearance for a Dominion side in December, 1914, when he went with the New Zealanders to Australia. After his return he gradually dropped out of the game. Although Mr Boxshall usually ow.,d his inclusion in a team to his wicket-keeping, he was a left-handed batsman wlio ; going in late, often managed to hit up 30 or 40. His best batting performance was in the 1908-9 season, when he assisted iu a last wicket partnership that put up 9S runs for Canterbury against Otago. The late Mr Boxshall left Christehureh about three years ago. For many years he kept the "Booklovers' Library" in Cathedral square, and later he became a director of the Papuan Products Co.
