Social and Personal. Miss Rosemary "Wilson (Sydney), who was the guest of Mrs ilowbray Tripp ("Silvcrton"), is now with ilrs Hamilton Sinclair-Thompson (Four Peaks). Mrs G. Murray-Aynjley and Miss Prins (Christchurch) are staying in XimaTu! Miss Barbara Webb (Christehurch) is the guest of Mrs J. P. Newman ("Moana"). Miss M. Cunningham (Xoi'th Canterbury) is visiting Mrs J. Scott ("Caunington").
Miss Meg Loughnan (Fairlie) is the guest of Mrs "W. 11. Orbell (Highfield). Mr and Mrs A. R. Guild ( {< Strathearn") have left for Auckland. Dr. and Mrs F. F. A. Ulrich (Elizabeth street) are visiting Dunediii.
TEMUKA. The St. Peter's Carnival, held on Thursday, was terminated in the evening with a dance and poster parade in tho Drill Hall, Temuka., end was well attended by the public. There was a largo number of posters representing firms doing business in the Dominion. Tho ballot resulted in Mr Blackmore, draper, Temuka. (Miss Pierce) being awarded tho first prize, Anise"brook (Miss Martin) second, and Creamoata, (Miss Ivca) third. During tho evening musical items were given b.v Mr F. W. Salmon and tho Arowhcntia Maoris. Tho results of tho guessing competitions were as follows : .Doll in cradle won by Mrsi Hervey; cushion, Miss D. Withcll; picture, Mies L. Burns; two boxes chocolates, Miss May Kellahan and Mr J. do Renzy; doll, Miss L Higinbottom; cushion, Mr "W. Pearco; cushion, Mrs F. A. ■lovnt: cake, Mrs Aspinall; caJto, Mm C.* Wilts.
A meeting of the directors of tho Temuka Caledonian Society was held in tho Fire Brigade room on Friday evening. Present: Messrs J. Henry (president), P. Surridge, J. Burns, W. F. Evans, H. B. Strange, L. J. Grant, J!. Macaulay, O. Higinbottom, IX O'Connor, ~,V. H. McMillan, and tho secretary (E. Booth). Tho following officials in connexion with tho coming Boxing Day sports wore elected: — Referee, Mr J. Henry; handicapper, Mr C. E. Hassall; starter Mr W. J. Mooro; lap scorer, Mr D. White.: ticket box, Messrs G-. and 10. G. Hancox; Press steward, Mr J. Fisher; course steward, Mr H. Hutcheson; competitors' stewards, Messrs P. Surridge and J. Burns; megaphone, Mr D. White; blackboard stewards, Messrs J. Paiki and D. O'Connor; assistant secretary, Mr O. 0. Fisher; judges, cycling and running. Messrs A. Bain, I/. J. Grant, W. F. EVans, G. H. Clements, "H. B. Strange, T. E. iShiols, G. Higinbottom, and the president: wrestling, hammer, caber and stone, Mr Lysaghfc; piping (Scotch dancing) «nd music, Mr W. Bell and Sir R. Macaulay, sen.; competitors' stewards for amove, R. -uacpctitors' stewards for above, It. Macaulay, J. Preddy, G. Ward, and G. Higinbottom; soft drinks, G. H. Clements and assistant. T. G. Smith's tender for the sweets and l ice-cream stall was accepted, and Mr G. H. Bryant's tender for the luncheon booth was acoepted. It was agreed to accept the services of tho Temuka Pipe Band. The procession on Boxing Day would start from Wood street at 11.30 a.m. For tho Cinderella dance, to be held in the evening, it was decided to arrange for Siriies's Orchestra for the music. Mr S. Parko was appointed M.C. and Messrs Higinbottom and Thomson were appointed doorkeepers. Prices were. fixed "at double tickets 3s •6d, lady's ticket, la 6d, and members free.
