In connexion -with tho South Canterbury Jockey Club's Spring Meeting to-day and to-morrow, a special train leaves Christchurch each day at 7.55 a.m., Kakaia 9.15 a.m., Ashburton 9.52 a.m., and arrives at tho club's course at 11.27 a.m. The return train leaves Timaru for Christchurch at 6.40 p.m. The fields throughout are good, and some excellent racing is anticipated. The Teschemaker Handicap is the principal event at Timarn to-day, and in it Deucalion and Red Wink, two winners at the recent meeting at Riccarton, ,will probably be the most freely supported. Rivalry, after her prominence in the Fendalton Handicap, will also carry tho confidence of a large number, and at 6st 131b reads particularly well. In the Flying Handicap at Timaru. Bugle Note, who is said to have shown 6ome improvement in his work lately, will be thoroughly tested by the-> two at tho head of, the handicap. Moorland and Tho while with Kerb and Goldtown amongst the other probable starters tho race should bo a particularly interesting one.
The Absurd—Oratress two-year-old filly, who failed to reach the "reserve placed on her at the recent sales in Christchurch, is shortly to be broken in by G. J. Pine, at Iliccarton. F. D. Jones is leaving for a short holiday in the North Island early next week.
