BURGESSES' ASSOCIATIONS.
ADDINGTON.
The Addington Burgesses' Association met ket night. Mr F. Mathieson (presidont) was in the chair, and twelve members attended.
The Town Clerk wrote stating that the City Surveyor had reported that wooden culverts at the intersection of certain streets in Addington were not' dangerous, but that a sum had been placed on the, estimates to replace wooden culverts with concrete ones as'they fell into disrepair. The Town Clerk also- stated that a request that an' irce fence at the corner of Jerrold street and Lincoln road should be lowered had. been referred to the AVorks Committee.
A motion by the Papanui Burgesses' Association drawing attention to the insanitary condition of Papanui and other suburbs on account of lack of drainage and of water supply, and suggesting that the Health Department should compel local bodies to exercise their statutary powers, was endorsed. A list of band concerts ; in the Jerrold street reserve was received. An invitation from the Halswell Burgesses' Association to attend a social on November 27th was accepted. The secretary was instructed to write to the City Council in regard to formation of & footpath on South Crescent road between Jerrold street and Selwyn street and to the Public Works Department asking that ia shed in Clarence road near the crossing should be removed. . . Mr T. Falkinder reported that the picnic at Coe'a Ford oh labour Day had resulted in a debit of. only to 2d. The chairman said' that the experiment of holding the picnic was very satisfactory. BECKENHAM. A meeting of the Beckenham Burgesses' Association was held last night, Mr A. C. Maxwell presiding.' '""■ a"'A general discussion took -place-w}«» regard to the question of avoiding the clashing of dates between the various, spotts clubs in tho district. . A suggestion was made that a general secretary should *e elected to deal with the matter of allotting : dates for the various sports, bodies. -The chainnaii said that, .the.-first suggestion was that an advisory board should be set up : to deal with the matter. It was decided to adjourn the. matter m the meantime, and that a. meeting of delegates of. sports clubs in the district should be held during January, 1925," with the object of forming the proposed, advisory board. _.. It was decided to write to the City Council asking them to. put the footpath in Beckenham Park in order,, and also to fence the eastern aide of the park. J, , It; was agreed to' write to the Chnstchurch Drainage Bolrd, asking them to expedite the extension of the sewers to the Beckenham district, especially in view of .'tho septic tank trouble. ' ' . It was decided that no meetings of the Association should be held in " December, January, or February, with a proviso that a special, meeting of the Association should be called if necessary. _ # A motion was carried thnt the City Council should be asked, that no chipping or soil should be taken from the streets in the Beckenham district until Eastern terrace was formed. It was decided, to support an effort to have a road made from the corner of Southampton and Croydon streets • .through "to Tennyson etreet.
