BOROUGH COUNCILS.

RANGIORA. The Rangiora Borough Council met last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr "W. A. Bowse), and Crs. C. I. Jennings, W. L. Murray, "W. R. Pike, C. R. Thwaites, C. S. Ayers, W. C Prosser, J. Lindon, R. Mcintosh, and 8... W. Borland. The Standing Committee recommended that the tender of A. J. Jones,. at £79 ss, be accepted for dressing' sheds at the baths; that the Health Officer be informed that there is a system of rubbish removal in the borough, which, although not compulsory, is giving every. satisfaction, and that the present area is being increased; that the Mayor represent the Council at tie meeting in Christchurch in connexion with . the Dunedin Exhibition; that the Council support ft resolution passed' by the executive of the Progress League protesting against'thepooling of interest on hydro-electric undertakings; that Mr A. D. Dobson's offer to report on the three water supply schemes submitted to him for £52 10s, be accepted; that tenders be called for the erection of a new electric sub-station in Good street, and a special meeting of the Council be held on December sth to deal with the tenders. Numerous complaints were received of cyclists riding on the footpath in. the borough, and it was decided to draw the attention of the Police Department to them with a view of taking action. Tho Railway Department wrote asking what support would be forthcoming for air" excursion train to Otira on December 6th.

It was decided to reply that as it would be market day at Rangiora-, the Council could not promise much support, but would sup port any other day. It was decided to request the gas manager to bring down his report ai the special meeting on December sth. The Town /Manager. reported that the r«. venue from the gas department" for the month of October was £276, aa against £313 83 6d for the same period last year. In the electricity department the revenue for the month was £216 16s 10d, as against £146 6s Id for the same period last year. Five 100-c.p. lamps were renewed during the month, and two new connexions and six additions made. Four permits for building alterations and additions were granted, the total value being £275. The report waa adopted. The Town Manager reported that he had collected £35 in .motor fees in connexion with the Labour Day.races. An extra pipe had been driven down 20 feet into the Viotoria street well, but had. not' proved so satisfactory aa expected, and he could not recommend this for other wells. As the Rangiora Borough Farm Rating Bill is now law the Council decided to receive applications from ratepayers wishing to take advantage of the provisions of tho Act. _The secretary to the Rangior* Saleyards Company wrote stating that the sanitation arrangements at the saleyards were bein? -attended' to.■ • 5 Messrs Helmore and van »Asch wrote regarding the Council's- position in the matter of the Institute-Hall, stating that as the trustees had. passed the hall and site over to the Council, it had power to dispose of we^property-if. necessary. Mr E. D. R. Smith, waited'on the Council- in connexion with property owned by Mrs O'Connor, in Good street. It was decided to offer Mrs O'Connor the sum of £25, and to re-erect the fence on the new boundary lino. The treasurer's, monthly statement was received. .
