THE SANDERS CUP.

. » (smmial to "the husbs.")' DUNEDIN, November 20. It has been euggestod in many quarters that the owners of the 14-footer dona- should bo asked by the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association officials to lend a set. of sails '■fox the Heather. Two new nets of Englleh .jails wcro imported for lona, and, as the boat is now flailing in, tho Sandors / Cup trials with (the latest euit, the owners of tho craft would probably agree to tho suggestion if approached'. In spito of all tho criticism, it may bo said that many boating enthusiasts, and in faot the majority, are still of the opinion that Heather, if properly equipped, would prove tho fastest 14footer in tho harbour. Although tho boat has not been given a. fair itry-out in tho race* sailed to date, there is etill timo for thoso concerned to tako soroo stcpa to bring hot lup to tho mark. Disappointment h»a been expressed by many at ithe apathy shown by the association in regard to giving Heather & fair try-out, and those who follow the present trials closely are hoping that tie association or the owner will make every effort to bring her up to her former racing form by securing the best Bails and the best crew. The Governor-General (Viscount Jellicoe) is an authority on tho class which bears his name, and, when visiting Dunedin last tnontb oxproased tho opinion Ahai Heatho* was tho best 14-footer in Otago, and that ishe would bo a worthy boat to represent tho province again in the Sanders Cup contest. In referring .to the principal boats now sailing in the local trisj races; a yachtsman of long standing in Otago 6&id yesterday: "The association should show some backbone. It should select tho best akippep (and that is Wiseman) and crew, equip Heather with the very best sails, even if they have to be borrowed,.and give the boat a proper tryout. If she Bhould show up prominently then she should be sent to Auckland without any hesitation, and, manned by the best crew, eh 6 would not disgrace the province."
