AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.
SOUTH CANTERBURY. (SPECIAL TO "*HE MUESB.") TIMABU, November 20. The annual meeting of the South Canterbury Automobile Association was held thin "evening, Dr, A. O. Patereon presiding. The annual report stated that during the past year 75 new members had been elected and 20 resignations received, leaving 477 on the register. The finances were in a satisfactory condition, the accumulated funds for this y«ar Being approximately £IOO in excess of last. The election of officers resulted aa follows Messrs A. S. Elworthy, A. Palliser, W. W. Baxter, W. T. Ritchie, Edgar Jones, G. A. Bridges, N. M. Orbell, S. G. McClelland, G. Benstead, J. H. Donne, and Drs. C. A. Paterson and G. E. Gabites; Levels: Mr O. L, Orbell; Sutherlands: Mr J. F. K. Jameson; Fairlie: Mi H L Banks; Termika:- Messrs G. B. Cartwright and M. McLeod; Geraldine: Messrs P. V. Lysaght and B. J. McKeown; Mackenzie: Messrs J. E. P. Bevell euggeafed for ths consideration of the committee that the Association should affiliate with the Garage Proprietors' Association. He thought that this would result in considerable, benefit to both associations.. .The president brought up the matter of the liability- of the Association to defwid ccr?£L **?? 9 °f Prosecution under the bv-iavi-s. Although this, had not been a conwlontbio iteman the past, it was quite possible that it might mak© a big hole in tEe Associa|taons funds. Ho thought it might be a f 1 ™ to make a smsJl levy upon raemIf to °°ver expenses in this direction. Mr Bitchie said he thought that such * levy might make the Association liable to defend any case whether right or wrong. i.Ho present said the Association would not necessarily defend any case. He bought tbo present policy of treating ewh case on its merits should be continued. Ihe matter was then allowed to drop.
