GEEYMOUTH, November 20
The Hon. H..L.- Michel, M.L.0., and Mr Gardiner Wilson, left for Christchurch to-day. .
Mr T. E. Saywell, Deputy-Public Trustee, left yesterday for "Wellington on annual leave.
Mr H. P. Olney (Punakaiki) returned to Greymoutli by to-day's express. He was accompanied, by Mr J. Olney, of Ceylon. Mr J. Hill was entertained yesterday by Hunter's co-operative mining party, of Dunollie. Mr S. Morris, chairman of the party, presented Mr Hill with a suitcase.
Mr J. H. Fowler, Assistant AuditorGeneral, is spending a holiday on the West Coast. .
Mr G. 0. Holden, Inspector of Mental Hospitals, left for Christehurch to-day. Mr and Mrs Love, of "Blackball, left to-day for Auckland, en route for Cauajda. The members of the Eeefton Ladies' Hockey Club presented Miss Isabel Lockington, the club captain, with a palm-stand and jardiniere in honour of her approaching marriage to Mr P. Colvin.
A party of tourists comprising !Mr and Mrs Lewis and Messrs Fussey and Hayeroft will arrive in Greymouth shortly and visit the principal scenic resorts.
Mr and Mrs Harding are visiting Greymouth. Mr D. McVicar, who was injured in an accident at Alexander Eeefs, has made a speedy recovery, which has enabled him to leave the Beefton Hospital. Mr B. Angus, tourist agent at Auckland, Mr "Walsh, and Mr Desborough, of Thomas Cook and Sons, "Wellington, will arrive in Greymouth on Saturday on a holiday visit. •' There is no change in the condition of Mr J. Stenhouse, secretary of the Despatch Foundry Company, who lies at the Grey Biver Hospital in a precarious condition.
The health of Mr H. H. Smith, who recently left Greymouth, shows a considerable improvement. Mr H. St. A. Murray, architect for tho new convent at Greymouth, ar- , rived on the Coast by to-day's express. Catholic Mission. The Catholic Mission, which induced phenomenal attendances of worshippers at Greymouth, will be continued at the townships on the Otira line, concluding at Euru on December 2nd.A. Bullock's Fate. When? a mob of bollocks was being driven along Mawhera Quay last evening, one of the animals broke away aaxl jumped over the bank into the river. Efforts to head it off were fruitless, and the last seen of the animal was when it crossed the bar swimming out to sea. County Council. The by-election rendered necessary by tho unseating of Cr. A. Blair, member for the Maori Creek riding on the Grey County Council, will be held next week. Cr. Blair will be a candidate for re-' election. "Wharf Accident. "While engaged in loading white pine into the Opua, a waterside worker named F. Eosel was struck by a heavy log, suffering injuries to a leg. Bate in? Bloom. The approach of the Christmas season is heralded everywhere ty the rata bursting into bloom. t ■ ■ Accident. The second accident within a few months oceurred at the Waikukupa bridge construction works on Tuesday, when a young man named Kelly, of South Spit, fell a distance of 20 feet. WESTPORT, November 20
Mr Kensington, Commissioner of Crown Lands, is on an official visit to the' Buller district. Ho is accompanied by Ms wife and son.
. The Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister of Lands,-will pay ail official visit to the Buller district" before next session.
The Westport Bowling Club is endeavouring to have Westport included in the itinerary of the English bowlers when they tour the Dominion. The Westport green is reputed to be the best in New Zealand.
After the meeting of the Finance Committee on Wednesday night, the members of the Weßtport Borough Council presented the newly-married DeputyMayor, Mr J. Enright, with an oak spirit Btand set with three cut-glass decanters. The Mayor (Mr Menzies) presided. Eulogistic speeches were made, and best wishes expressed for the future happiness of the newly-married couple.
