SCHEME TO RAISE FUNDS,

The residents of Itedcliffs and Sumner havo tho matter of mating their district more attractive- very closo to their hearts and, in. order to raise funds to carry on tho work, a combined meeting of the Sumner Beautifying Association and the Gala Committee of the Redcliffs Burgesses' Association met in the committee room of the Sumner Borough Council on Tuesday evening. There were present—Messrs T. B. Boulton, H. C. Jones, H. P. Lo Page, J. A. Rudge, I?. H. Mathews, AV. McDonald, R. Britton, S. Jscttleton, G. AY. Poster, J. Carter, and AY. D. Kirkpatrick. Mr 11. Lc Page, who was elected to the chair said Ihe proposition they had t r > consider'was the liolding of a lung and queen carnival. It would be necessary to form an executive, and for tho different candidates to form their own committees. It was proposed to run a Sumner, Kedcliffs and Aq-uuiic King and Queen. It was decided that those present form the executive, with Mr H. P. Le Pago as chairman, Mr F. H. Mathews secretary, and Mr T. Boulton treasurer. The Mayor of Sumner, Mr tV. H. Nicholson, was elected patron, and Mr T. Newburirh auditor. The colours of the six candidates were allotted as follows: Redcliffa, red and li?ht brown;. .Sumner, light blue, white; Aquatic, green, gold. The closing dalo of tho competition was fixed for Easter Tuesday, tho coronat'on ceremonv to be arranged" later. ■ It 'was d°>cided to get quotations for books of tickets, candidates' committees to bo provided with tickets'by the executive. Tho committees were to make all returns to the executive netIt was a recommendation to the com nuttees that the ago oi candidates should not exceed 10 years. Tho chairman expressed the hope that t/ie scheme would bo taken up enthusiastically, and that the district would beneiit considerably as the result.
