NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. . The fifty miles amateur ■ road raeo championship .of. New Zealand takes place oa Saturday i'roni Ashb.urton to, Christchurch. A-great entry has boon received,-compris-ing tho best amateur riderß in tho Dominion, and it is espected that .upwards of 90 will face the-etarter. A handicap is'bcias -run in conjunction with the championship, 'bo there will bo a Rocd deal of speculation' as to who will set' fastest time. Tho position of honour is occupied by Fldtt (Wellington) and Mitchell,. u.unt and Forrester (Christchurch), whilo Cooper and Harrison' (Wellington), • Tippctt • (Hawera). Curtis iLcvin), Cooluley (Longburn), and Nairn and .Moir (Dunedin) hrvc- starts. - The limit men -are timed to -leave Ash/burton about 12.30 p.m.. and tho first man is. expected at the Show Grounds, Addington; about 3 y.Ta. - - The combined amateur athletic clubs of ChriDtcburch have arranged •an • attractive programme of oventa to entertain the crowd at the Shoiv Grounds whi.e Waiti-ng for'- tha cyclist 3 .to t-how -up. Thero will be a dred yaidsi sprint, a half-mile flat handicap,, and a '.print relay. ■ - J. McHolm, the Australasian champion hammer thrower, will give an exhibition of. hammer, and discus throwing, and tho heat high jumpers of . the. province, -.•will, tako part in an invitation high jump.
