(s'SClii TO ''TBI sssss.') GR.EYMOCTH, November 13. But for the prompt action of a seaman in the Karori -last evening a Eewanui miner named Carson would probably have been drowned in the. Grey river. The latter was walking along the wharf when he lost - his footing, and was'soon in difficulties in the water. The man from the Karori, whose name.has not been ascertained, saw his plight, and without a moment >i hesitation dived in and assisted Carson to obtain a foothold on the staging. Bystanders lowered a rope, and the two men were drawn, up to safety.

The Rev T. N. and Mrs .Cuttle, who have been at Palmerston • North, returned to Greymouth to-day. , The death occurred at Reef ton yesterday of Mr 'William Knight, of Upper Broadway, at the age of 53 years. The deceased, was a native of Australia, but had worked in the mining industry at \Reefton since ' childhood. He is survived by-a widow and two daughters.

The funeral of the late Mr John Winters, who died on Sunday, took place this afternoon at. Karoro cemetery, Archdeacon Carr reading the burial service. An official.from the Lands Department will arrive in Westport to-mor-row to report on the buildings recently erected on the north beach.' Investigations will centre chiefly on wharo holders occupying section '3O, which was recently declared a recreation reserve by Act of Parliament. A petition is being presented to' the Education authorities by the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre praying for the establishment of a branch High School at Granity. This would absorb pupils from the mining townships of Denuiston, Waimangaroa, Millerton, Burnett's Face, and Seddonville. The Bevs. Pickering and Dyson left this morning to. attend the Methodist Conference at Richmond.

Mr J. McEwan, of the Bank of Now South Wales, is under orders to transfer to Dannevirke. -'

Through the Hon. "Wi H. Mclntyre's representations to the Government, a loan is to be raised through the State Advances Department for the installation of electric light in the Buller Hospital, and' also for an extension to the male ward. The sum of £2OOO will be required for the latter;
