CASUALTIES.
FOUND SHOT.
■ Arnold Orr, aged 21, was found dead yesterday morning at New Brighton on the sandhill .s near Hood street, with a bullet wound near the heart. Lying near was an automatic revolver. "All the circumstances point to.suicide.' Orr was a clerk employed bv Vale and Co.. Ltd., plumbers, and his father, Mr A. H. C. Orr. is manager of the Sydenham branch of the Bank of New Zealand. Selwyn Courtney, -of George street, New Brighton, found the body at about 5.30' a.m. Papers in deceased's pockets established his identity. * An inquest was held at the Hospital, before the Coroner, Mr H. Y. Widdowson, last evening, for purposes of identification only.
The inquest concerning the death of Hector McDonald, 14 years of .age, who was crushed by a lorry on Monday, was opened before the Coroner (Mr H. Y. Wi'ddowson 1 ) yesterday afternoon. Evidence of identification was given, and Dr. B. L. Wilson, of the Christchurch Hospital, said that when the deceased was admitted he was unconscious. The base of the skull was fractured, the jaw broken, and the right lung crushed. The inquest was adjourned sine'die.
W. Hobbs, .a .Sockburn horse-trainer, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital at 11.30 yesterday morning suffering from injuries, to the head through being, kicked bv a young horse. B. R. Duke," of "193 Colombo street, was knocked down by a motor-car at about 6.30 last night, and admitted to the-Hospital with injuries to the face. Mrs J. Price, of 108 Salisbury street, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital at 8 o'clock last evening with a fractured right arm, caused through falling off a train. ' Miss A. Allen, of 232 Esplanade road, New Brighton, was knocked over by a' motor-car in Cashel street at about 9 o'clock last night, and was taken to the Hospital suffering from-injuries to the head and arms. .
(special to "the press.") AUCKLAND, November 18. An accident occurred at Mareretu, on the Main Trunk railway line, about eight miles from Paparoa, by which a single man named James M. Morice, residing on a farm, lost his life. In company with-Reginald McCarroll, on Sunday he was riding to his own farm. The horses, which had been cantering, came to. a walk. Morice's horse,stumbled and threw its rider over its head. The horse, in getting" up, stood on the man's chest with its hind foot, crushing his ribs. His companion promptly camo to his assistance, but Morico was apparently unconscious. McCarroll was unable to.convey his companion home on the horse, but ran home, got his motorcar out, and with the assistance of a neighbour conveyed the injured man to McCarroll's farm, where the family did all that possibly could be done. Morice lingered till 12.30 on Monday night, when he died.

' Ivan Lulich, a Jugo-Slav, aged 32, singles, was ' found ' dead in a gum digging camp on the. West Coast road last night. Deceased had shot him-self-with a.double-barrelled shot-gun by tying a- piece of string to a big toe and the trigger of the gun. The inquest revealed the-fact that he had been'ill for Some time, and had given up all hope of reco\ 7 ery. Ho left a letter stating it was his intention to take his lifo. The Coroner brought in a verdict that deceased' took his life while mentally depressed through ill-health. • GORE, November 18.
Isabella Patterson, a young single woman, employed at -Wa'ipahi, was found dead-in bed. Her relatives reside at Waianakarua, in the Oamaru district.
