A settlement has been reached in the Ferndal© dispute, and 12 men on the ship who were objected to have left her unconditionally, leaving the way cl-ar for the management to engage a r..,v crew. The trouble on the Morcten Bay continues, the management remaining adamant in its refusal to employ any of tho dismissed stewards on any passenger ship. Consequently all Commonwealth steamers arriving in the near future may be laid up by the maritime unions. The fight of the Waterside- Workers' Federation against the Shipping Bureau has not prospered. Tho overtime strike lias been lifted so far as interstate vessels are concerned, but not in respect of oversea steamers, which almost exclusively employ bureau labour. Tho Waterside Workers' Federation and tho Sea Transport Group of unions aa - o now hard put to it to find a solution of the position in which they have placed themselves. TRIMMERS TO RESUME. SYDNEY, November IS. It is stated that -the Newcastle branch of the Coal Trimmers' Union has received instructions to abandon the overtime strike. It is believed these orders will be carried into effect to-day.
