Owing to an unfavourable reply received by a deputation from Mr H. E. Prattcn (Federal Minister of Trade and Customs) a vote on the question of Tasmania seceding from the Federation waa called for. Although Hobart'a leading business men were included, the assemblage almost unanimously voted in the affirmative.
