MUSTERERS AND DROVERS.

ARBITRATION COURT'S AWARD. The award of the Arbitration Court governing the wages and conditions of the musterers, drover 3 and packers in Canterbury follows closely on the award made in Otago.

The clauses are as follows: — Musterers and Packers. —Musterer3 when employed to muster sheep for any purpose shall be paid not less than £4 2s 6d per week if engaged by the week, and not less than 17s per day if engaged by the day. Musterers engaged by tho week shall receive an additional payment of 17s for any Sunday on which they aro required to do any mustering. Packers employed in connexion with mustering shall be paid noteless than £3 7s 6d per* week if engaged by the week, and not less than 15s per day if engaged by the day. Any musterer or packer required to do snow-raking shall be paid £1 5s per dav when engaged in such work. Youths may be employed to learn mustering at not less than the following rates in. addition to their board and lodging: —For the first year, £1 10s per week; for the second year, £2 per week.

Conditions. —In all cases food of good quality and sufficient quantity, including butter and jam, shall be provided by the employer, (b) In all cases where it is reasonably practicable, musterers and packers shall be provided by the employer with good dry sleeping accommodation On the hills, and proper provisions shall be made for the protection of all bedding during transit. Musterers required to travel more than ten miles to a station shall be paid for such travelling ono day's pay. Drovers shall be paid not less than £1 13 per day and all necessary expenses. The provisions of the award shall not apply to any worker who is employed regularly as a farm hand, or station hand, and who assists in mustering or does packing for musterers. The award shall operate throughout the Canterbury industrial district. No recommendations were filed in this dispute. The Court included a number of stock and station agents in the list of parties,, but they are bound by the award only when contracting as principals. Whun they contract as agents the award has no effect, the person bound being the principal for whom the agent is acting.
