TIMARU. Social and Personal. Miss Brenda Newman (Moana) returned to Timaru yesterday after a holiday in Christehurch. Mr and Mrs H. Sinclair Thomson, who were the guests of Mrs Arthur El worth v (Holm© Station), have returned to Geraldine. Mrs W. X. Bond (Cl'aromor.O is spending a few days in Christehurch. Mrs Loughnnn (Wellington) is visiting Mrs .T. P. Newman (Means''. Mr and Mrs J. Hole < VCai-iti road) have returned from Christehurch. Mr and Mrs Peter Houston arrived from Dunedin yesterday, and are the guests of Mrs K. 11. Joyce (Avenue road i. Mrs \V. 11. Orbell /Highiieid'i and Mrs C. J,. Orbell fPentlow') are expected to return from Christehurch to-day. The Weather. A southerly wind which sprang up yesterday morning brought with it overcast skies, and :i light shower of rain fell early in the afternoon. The change was unpleasant after the warmth of the past few days. TEMUKA. The late Mr Josiah Elphinstone, whose death occurred under tragic circumstances in Duncdin last week, was a. well-known and popular figure in Tcmuka and surrounding districts. He was a lover of tennis, an enthusiastic angler, and a keen chess player. Mr Elphinstone spent most of his holidays on the banks of the Opihi.
