VISITS FROM OVERSEAS.

(iPECIft TO "THE PUM.") WELLINGTON, November 18.

In the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association's thirty-third" annual report, the .following references are' made to visits from overseas athletes on the question of visits from overseas:—Nothing definite can yet be announced- with, regard to a visit to these shores of an overseas team during the coming season. During the visit of tho Californian University tennis team to Australia, the manager, Mr Maloney, who is deeply interested in athletics, was interviewed on our behalf as to the possibility of an American "University team of athletes making a tour of New Zealand, and possibly Australia. While passing through Auckland on his return journey, Mr Maloney said he would, if so commissioned, arrange for a team, consisting of a sprinter, a, hurdler, a one and two-mil© runner, and a field games exponent, to visit this country during the coming season. Overtures have also- been made to -South Africa, and Australia, the former not having so far replied, while the latter ana prepared to organise a team to suit our requirements if eo desired. So tat nothing-has been definitely decided, but it .would appear certain that one of the abovementioned teams will be Been here during" the ensuing summer. Rumours are current that E., C. W. Paddock and L. Murchison, .two. of America's greatest sprinters and record-holders, are contemplating a tour of the world, leaving San Francisco on January Ist for the following places:—Hawaii, the.. Philippines, China-, Australia, New Zealand. India, South Africa, Italy, France, Germany, Chechoslovakia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and England, truly an ambitious .programme. Should the tour be sanctioned by tho Amateur Athletic Union of U.S.A., .and an invitation be extended by this council, it would • appear - impossible for ■ them to reach here before the . close of our season, if they intend to visit the countries in the order named above.- Nothing official is yet known of the projected tour, and tberefcre the matter is merely "in the air" at the present time.-
