ANGLING NOTES.

NO LARGE BAGS. Interviewed yesterday Tjy a "Press"' representative, several leading anglers gave their opinions of present fishing conditions. In the Sohvyn River there has been practically "nothing doing" since the flood of a fortnight ago, which upset all the fisliing. iSilveries, however, are running plentifully, and it is expected that there will be a good "run" by ,Christmas. Up to the present fishing in the Selwyn has been rather disappointing. Tha fish may continue the run up stream at any time. Most of tli© rivers are dirty, but fairly good bags are being secured at the mouth. Tho recent flood made a big difference, in the upper reaches, but better fishing is looked for towards the-end of the month. The Ashley Hirer contains. very few fish at. the present time. _ The snow rivers are all dirty, but plenty of small fish are being caught on the fly. There is plenty of water in all the rivers, and last week some good-fish were taken out of the Avon, a four-pounder being caught at the Brighton Bridge. Mr W. Cook, a farmer residing near the mouth , of the Rangitata, caught a couple of salmon in the breakers Jast week. His catch is of particular interest to anglers, as it foreshadows a. big run of salmon; for which fishermen are eagerly looking.

(SPECIAL TO "Tins PEE3S.") AUCKLAND, November 17. .Advices from Tokaanu state that excellent rainbow trout fishing is still, being experienced. Several anglers fishing the Tongariro River landed some splendid catches for so early in the season. The average weight was 741b, and the largest fish secured scaled lGilb. Trolling in Lake Taupo is also providing great sport for beginners. One party landed 26 fish before breakfast. Over 100 week-end anglers left Tokaanu this morning.
