INCREASED RACING PERMITS.

CHURCHES' ATTITUDE. At last night's meeting of the Council of Christian Congregations, . a motion censuring the action of the Government in sanctioning increased racing permits, was moved by Mr A. Borrows. The motion was as follows: '"That the Council of Christian Congregations records its extreme regret that the Government shoulj have forced extra gaming days on the country, in 'spite of the impressive evidence tendered by this and other organisations, and without any attempt to relieve the admitted congestion of race days both in Christchurch and Auckland. The Council thanks those who so strenuously opposed the Bill." The Rev. W. J. Williams, in seconding the motion, also condemned- the . action of the Government in making provision for further racing permits. The motion was carried without discussion.
