ST. ALBANS PUBLIC PLAYGROUND FUND.

SATURDAY'S FETE. The meeting of workers-of the various. committees was held last night in the Edgeware Bowling Club pavilion for the purpose of making final arrangements for the fete to be held next Saturday in St v Albans Park. There was a large attendance and Mr R. B. Dalley presided. Mr A. A. Johnson was appointed to take charge of the sheep-guessing competition.

An offer by Mr G. T. Porteous to take part in the side-shows with . a shooting gallery was accepted on a fiity-tiicy basis. Tiie oifer of Mr C. Fisk, to run a side-show was accepted with thanks. Mr H. E. Kennett, convener of the Procession Committee, stated that there was some difficulty in arranging with motorists to decorate their cars for the procession and he thought it would be better that it should be abandoned in favour of. a procession through the city of motor-cars on Friday night, witn hand bells to advertise the fete.

in answer to an enquiry, the organiser stated that entries were very difficult to obtain from the canvass he had made of firms in tlie city. : Mr S.. Thompson moved, that the procession be abandoned. The motion was seconded Uy Mr o. Colville and carried unanimously.

The oifer of Mr Jiennett to arrange a procession of cars tilled with children through the town on Friday evening was accepted. . Mr \V; Thomas offered a motor-truck to convey the children through the city. The offer was accepted with thanks, and it was agreed that the services of a band should be obtained.'

Mr R. Patrick, of Papamti, was introduced to the' meeting as a willing helper in the ceremony of crowning the queen. Mr Patrick stated that he would be quite* willing to undertake the duties of organising the crowning ceremony, liie offer was accepted with thanks. The Boxing Committee reported that a tent with seating accommodation for 400 had been provided and that classes had been provided for bantamweight, feather-weight, light-weight, welter-weight and a special exhibition bout of three rounds paper-weights, by Thomas Brothers, special bout of six rounds, Alex Thompson (v. Stan Leigh, and a special bout for a gold medal given by Mr W. Thomson, four'twominute rounds, Wright v. Andrews. It was reported that full entries had been received for all classes. The price of admission would be 2s. There would be two sessions, one in the afternoon iand one at night. It was reported that Messrs Ashby, Bergh and Co., Jack Brothers, Ltd., C. S. McCully, W. Thomas, F. Clark and R. Nash liad given gold medals.
