QUAIL ISLAND LEPERS.
A CURE EFFECTED. CONFIRMATION SERVICE BY ARCHBISHOP. The value of the Chaulnicogra oil treatment, which has been in use atthe Quail Island Leper Settlement for tho past six years,'has been fully demonstrated by the cure of one of the patients, who, aften showing negative tests for some considerable time, will be discharged in tho course of a few weeks : The patient concerned is James Ivokiri Hemi, «. Maori, aged 42 years. Ho is a native of Tauranga ;;nd has a. wife and two children. "\\lfen Hemi arrived at the Island he had lost several fingers ;vt the joints as a result of the dread disease. He has always remained cheerful and hopeful, and this, no doubt, materially assisted the treatment. Hemi was always fore-most in organising entertainment* lor his fellow-sufferers, and his absence, when he leaves the Island, will be felt by the othef patients who, nevertheless, are pleased to know that he is again freo to mingle with his fellow-men Hemi intends; taking up mission work among the Maoris iu the North Island. Yesterday afternoon the Primate, Archbishop Julius, visited the Settlement to hold a Confirmation Service. Several friends of the patients were present, and the lte;v. C. A. Fraer, of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Phillipstown, was also in attendance. Two of the patients, both Maoris, were presented by the Rev. A. J. Petrie ; One was the cured man, Hemi. and tho other .-i, patient known as "'Joe." After" the Confirmation his Grace gave a short address to the patients, taking »ts his text "Follow Me." He said that the cure of one of their number should hearten them and give them hope for the future. The number of patients remaining when Hemi leaves will be seven, coinprising three Europeans, two Maoris, und. two Chinese.
