CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION'S COMPETITIONS.

Perfect weather and Sr3t-class wickets favoured the opening of trio second round of grade matches en Saturday. The play was of e fairly even character and much of the batting was decidedly good. Sydenham v. St. Albans. St. Albans had first knock against Sydenham at Haglev Park and the earlier batsmen did so well tbajt- 2*JO went up with only four wickets down. The later batsmen, however, slumped and the total only reached 216. A fine innings by Gafson put Sydenham in a eood position, and they should have no difficulty in making the required runs.
