A compulsory conference of representatives' «1' shipowners and maritime unions sat for two hours, end adjourned till the following day. FORTY TO ONE. UNIONISTS MAUL BUREAU WORKER. (AUSTRALIAN" iXD X.Z. CABLE AS3OCIATIOS.) SYDNEY, November 12. The watersiders' overtime strike has taken an ugly turn following altercations at Woolloomooloo between unionists and workers from the Shipping Bureau. A Shipping Bureau worker was violently assaulted, while crossing the Domain towards Woolloomooloo, by about 40 lumpers, who suddenly surrounded him and knocked him down. Only tho appearance of two policemen saved the man's life. He was taken to hospital with a fractured jaw, and other serious injuries. An attempt was made to attack another Bureau worker, but he saw the move in time and made off. The lumpers chased him for a considerable distance.
