Bairstow, a widow aged about 35 years, who resided at the Lower Hutt. - was missed from her home ve&iterday riiorning, and a search resulted in her body being foand ill the Hutt river. There were cuts on the wrists and legs", and the indications were that, tjio wcunds were inflicted before the woman left-home. She had been, mentally depressed for Mine .time, and tho severe illneES of lier daughter apparently unhinged her mind. She left a letter, intimating her intention to commit suicide.

Edwin Barry, a warehouseman ployed by Sargood, Son and Ewcn, Ltd., Wellington,- whe-was on a holiday visit to Wairoa, went for a swim lato this afternoon and got into difficulties. In spit© of' attempts at rescue ho was drowned. Ihe body has not been recovered.
; DUNEDIN. November 12. : At' the inquest on Josiah Elphinstono, aged 75, who was found in sorub.near. the Cemeterv road, with a bullet wound jr. ;the head! it" was shown that deceased suffered from ■an incurable disease. A verdict was-returned that deceased shot himself while in a depressed state cf mind' due to ill-health.
